The above items represent unauthorized reproductions recently offered for sale under false attribution, illegally reproduced from Crespi’s original works belonging to the ‘Rising Sun’ collection (1973-1975), protected by Italian and international industrial and intellectual property laws.

In the past, identical unauthorized reproductions were found signed by the infringer himself, or proposed to galleries or Auction Houses as Gabriella Crespi’s original works. Some of them have already been permanently removed from the market. The infringer was condemned by the Court of Rome (judgement no.8155/1978) and the Court of Appeal of Rome (judgement no.11422/1979).

We remind everyone who owns these reproductions, that promoting and offering them for sale, creates a misleading confusion among the public and a significant damage to the work and exclusive rights of Gabriella Crespi.

PUBLIC NOTICE 13 OCTOBER 2023

Out of respect for the historical and artistic legacy of Gabriella Crespi and the many collectors and admirers of her works, and with the view to protect the rights relating to the name of Gabriella Crespi and her works, rights currently held by her heirs and Gabriella Crespi S.r.l., we dutifully give notice of the following.

It has recently come to our attention that the items depicted in the images below have been offered for sale by certain websites with the following information:

“Creator: Ferdinando Loffredo”

“[…] Loffredo was the cabinetmaker of Gabriella Crespi, he made the malacca pieces for her. […] The table come from the personnal archive of Ferdinando Loffredo, delivered with a certificate from the Loffredo Archive, signed on side. […]”

With this public notice, once again we firmly clarify that Mr. Ferdinando Loffredo never collaborated with Gabriella Crespi in the creation and realisation of any of her works, not even as a cabinetmaker, and that the above-mentioned items constitute unauthorised reproductions of works created by Gabriella Crespi between 1970 and 1976.

The aforesaid statements represent an undue exploitation of the name and fame of Gabriella Crespi and are seriously damaging as, not only do they generate confusion among the public and within the market, but they also create false convictions about the true origin and authorship of her works.

As already reported in our public notice of September 2019, as confirmation of the unreliable and harmful nature of the above statements and in order to protect the interests of the public and safeguard the proprietary rights on the name and works of Gabriella Crespi, once again we are forced to recall that Mr. Loffredo, who had worked for our company in the early ‘70s exclusively as delivery man, has been condemned by the Court of Rome (judgement no. 8155/1978) and the Court of Appeal of Rome (judgement no. 11422/1979), for being liable of placing on the market a number of pieces signed “Ferdinando Loffredo”, which were illegally reproduced from the original works of Gabriella Crespi. A number of seizures were conducted against dealers selling these illegal reproductions and the sites where these pieces were produced. Mr. Loffredo was also ordered to publish the rulings in the same publications in which he advertised these goods.

It should also be reaffirmed that any form of undue exploitation of the name of Gabriella Crespi is strictly prohibited and that the production, promotion and sale of unauthorized reproductions of works created by Gabriella Crespi constitutes an infringement of the intellectual property rights in these works as protected by applicable laws. In fact, all the works created by Gabriella Crespi and all distinctive marks referable to the artist and her creations, including all rights related thereto, are protected under applicable national and international intellectual and industrial property laws. As a result, the production, promotion and sale of unauthorized reproductions of works created by Gabriella Crespi as well as any use of the Gabriella Crespi trademark without license or authorization, are considered as counterfeit activities and/or plagiarism, and/or unfair competition and/or abusive advertising, and are punishable according to the civil and criminal laws in force.

Gabriella Crespi always relied on artisans of the highest level of proven professionalism and trust for the production of her works. Still today, these artisans produce works on behalf of Gabriella Crespi S.r.l. No one else is authorized to reproduce the works created by Gabriella Crespi without our authorization.

It is also worth mentioning that in 2012 Gabriella Crespi founded, together with her daughter Elisabetta, Archivio Gabriella Crespi, that was created within the company, with the clear intention of protecting admirers and collectors of her works against any falsehoods and/or deceptions.

We always thank all those who cooperate with us to identify illegal reproductions of Gabriella Crespi’s creations and permanently remove them from the market.

PUBLIC NOTICE SEPTEMBER 2019

Out of respect for the historical and artistic legacy of Gabriella Crespi and the many collectors and admirers of her work, and with the view to protect the rights relating to the name of Gabriella Crespi and her works, rights currently held by her heirs and Gabriella Crespi S.r.l., we dutifully give notice of the following.

It has recently come to our attention that certain websites selling “Ferdinando Loffredo” products contain the following information about an alleged – and non-existent – collaboration between Mr. Loffredo and Gabriella Crespi for the creation of various works by Crespi:

“…Important note is that the designer was for many years a collaborator of the Milanese designer Gabriella Crespi.”

“…Ferdinando Loffredo already collaborator in several works of Gabriella Crespi.”

“…Ferdinando Loffredo was for many years a collaborator and apprentice of the Milanese designer Gabriella Crespi and hence the similarities in the style and use of bamboo.”

With this notice, we intend to firmly clarify that the above statements are untrue, since Mr. Ferdinando Loffredo never collaborated with Gabriella Crespi on any of her works.

Therefore, these statements unduly exploit the name and fame of Gabriella Crespi and are seriously damaging as, not only do they hurt Gabriella Crespi’s reputation and create confusion among the public and within the market, but they also create false convictions about the true origin and authorship of her works.

As confirmation of the harmful nature of these statements and in order to protect the interests of the public and safeguard the proprietary rights on the name and works of Gabriella Crespi, we are forced to recall that Mr. Loffredo, who worked for our company in the early ‘70s exclusively making deliveries to clients, was held liable by the Magistrate’s Court of Rome (ruling no. 8155/1978) and, in second instance, by the Court of Rome (ruling no. 11422/1979) for having put into the market illegal reproductions of certain works created by Gabriella Crespi and signing them “Ferdinando Loffredo.” A number of seizures were conducted against dealers selling these illegal reproductions and the sites where these pieces were produced. Mr. Loffredo was also ordered to publish the rulings in the same publications in which he advertised these goods.

As is well known, during her artistic career, Gabriella Crespi’s only creative collaborator was her daughter Elisabetta. The sole exception being the collaboration in 2015 with the artist Franco Deboni for a four-hands work entitled “4H-Puzzle Table.” As regards the actual production of her works, Gabriella Crespi always relied on artisans of the highest level of proven professionalism and trust. Still today, these artisans produce works on behalf of Gabriella Crespi S.r.l. No one else has ever been authorized by us to reproduce the works created by Gabriella Crespi.

We also point out that in 2012 Gabriella Crespi founded, together with her daughter Elisabetta, Archivio Gabriella Crespi, that was created within the company, with the clear intention of protecting admirers and collectors of her works against any falsehoods and/or deceptions.

To this end, and for the purpose of thwarting attempts – even recent ones – to market and sell works not designed by Gabriella Crespi but presented as her original works, we hereby inform you that anyone wishing to verify the authorship of any works allegedly by Gabriella Crespi can contact our archive.

It should also be reaffirmed that any form of undue exploitation of the Gabriella Crespi name is strictly prohibited and that the production, promotion, and sale of unauthorized reproductions of works created by Gabriella Crespi constitutes an infringement of the intellectual property rights in these works as protected by applicable laws. Infact, all the works created by Gabriella Crespi and all distinctive marks referable to the artist and her creations, including all rights related thereto, are protected under applicable national and international intellectual and industrial property laws.
